Shanghai Suzy Lipsticks!

I love supporting local brands and I love lipsticks so it seemed to be fate when I stumbled across Shanghai Suzy.  The brand was founded in Melbourne by the lovely Joanna Wheaton who wanted to create a line of lipsticks that were cheap, but luxurious. And let me tell you she has done it perfectly. Each lipstick is package impeccably, from the matte black casing to the silver lettering there is nothing that says that this lipstick only cost $12.95. The brilliance of the whole line is that each lipstick is limited edition and a new collection is released each season with new colours that have had their inspirations drawn from the fashion industry in those months. I was lucky enough to pick up the entire Autumn collection, which by the way ladies, if you purchase the entire collection it only costs $65 for all eight lipsticks. For a lipstick that I would put on par with the likes of Mac, if not better than in some cases, they are worth every penny. 

As for the lipsticks themselves there are two different finishes to choose from; 'Matte' and 'Nourish'. Now all the lipsticks I've tried are matte so I can't give you my opinion on the nourish formula however if the matte version is anything to go by I'd say they would be worth it! I've never been the hugest fan of matte lipsticks but Shanghai Suzy has definitely won me over with their formula. Its deliciously creamy, thick and moisturising, which seems unheard of in a Matte lipstick but somehow they have managed to do just that. Another brilliant thing out Shanghai Suzy's lipsticks is the vibrancy of the colours. Every shade has been thoughtfully chosen and the entire collection is scented like grape bubblegum, I seriously have the sniff the bullet every time I go to apply it! Whoops just sniffed my hand then- damn swatches! 

And my favourite touch to the entire collection is the names,maybe I'm a little bias but Miss Amy is pretty high up there on my favourites list, having said that there isn't a shade that I don't like ;)  If you guys would like to find out a bit more about each Shanghai Suzy lipstick I'll be posting a more detailed review with swatches and all that jazz later on in the week!  

Weekly Catchup // Fourth May

Hey Guys! This week has been crazy, I feel like uni had been the  only thing on my mind and all my thoughts surround chemical equilibrium and thermodynamics. Fun huh! So it was nice to spend an afternoon with a good book; I'm currently reading 'The beastly Beatitudes of Balthazar B.' the book itself is over 60 years old and has the charm-and smell, of my Nanna, but there's something comforting about a worn cover and discoloured pages. And when mother nature pulled out this stunning sunset it reminded me that an afternoon in the sun is not an afternoon wasted! 

My friday night's have become a little pitiful, I sit in the library and try and finish all my assignments so that I can get a saturday morning sleep in and have a day to myself. If anyones ever told you University is easy- they were either a genius or lying. It's flippin hard! The only plus side to spending weekends in the library is that the uni bar is right next to where I study so if I still get to hear the doof-doof of the music, which is good enough for me!

And with my saturdays they usually end up with board games in the evenings. Monopoly is king in our house and we take it very seriously- or as serious as you can get when everyones trying to wheel and deal under the board and then a mysterious amount of notes appear that most definitely were't there before. You can definitely tell who is cheating using strategies when they end up with 5 streets!  

Yesterday morning was spend spring cleaning my bedroom; you couldn't see the carpet so I figured it was about time. Once it was clean I decided to pop out and buy a bunch of flowers {$5 from Aldi!What a bargain- I spend more than that on coffee a day.}  and happened to walk past Dusk on the way out of the shopping centre. For everyone who isn't from Australia, Dusk is a fancy-pants candle shop that is dimly lit and smells amazing. I'm always tempted to spend my hard eared pennies there but it is quite pricey. But as I wandered past with my bunch of roses I noticed that they had several mothers day sales so I popped in and a few minutes later I walked out with a oil burner and an assortment of melts. I'm already obsessed, you put a tea light in the bottom and a melt in the top and your entire house smells warm and inviting! 

So that was my week; I spent far to much time in front of the computer but I guess some weeks it just has to be done. I hope your weeks were a little more exciting than mine! Let me know :)

Revlon Parfumerie Polish!

I don't know about you but I love winter. Layering jackets and scarfs, the crisp leaves on the ground and occasionally the sprinkling of snow which then means curling up in front of an open fire with a cup of chai tea! Or at least thats what my winters were like before I moved up to Sydney, my chances of snow have been squashed into a big fat zero but that doesn't mean I can't still indulge in my winter rituals. One of which includes investing in a couple of new winter-esque nail polishes, so when I saw that Revlon had launched a Parfumerie line of polishes I knew that I needed to try them out. 

 

I decided to go with Wintermint and Wild Violets, both beautiful shades. Wintermint is an almost mermaid like green with teal and gold specks floating through. Although it brings back those childhood memories of cheap glitzy polish that came for free with your coveted magazines, there is definitely an air of elegance about Watermint. I think it's because the glittery tones are perfectly matched with minty polish and the gold specks just add another layer of sophistication! The fact that it smells like peppermint chocolates is just an added bonus. I would often get a whiff of it throughout the day and wonder where that gorgeous smell was coming from! It is a truly delightful polish.

 On the other hand Wild Violets is a really gorgeous deep purple but the smell is just a little off. Almost like something my Nanna would wear on a special occasion that has the odour of musty cupboard mixed with potpourri. Having said that it's not to overpowering and is definitely bearable, just don't get your fingers to close to your nose! Smell aside it is a very wearable polish with just the right amount of sparkle! The durability of the Parfumerie range is around 5ish days with a good topcoat! I've got my eye on a few other shades from the collection which are more spring-ey so I'll let you know how they go once they find their way to my eagerly awaiting hands!

Weekly Catchup // 20 April

Wohoo!! I've finally got my head on straight and managed to take a few snaps to share with you guys!!! I'm currently on holidays visiting my little old Tassie and as much as i've missed the amazing coffee and gorgeous scenery, I'm ready to go back to Sydney. The first few days after I arrived home the weather was miserable; cold, wet and awful, just as it always was! But with that came cosy nights lounging around with a good book,  endless arguments over monopoly and lots of chai tea, which really is my idea of a perfect holiday, I fell back in love with my old home town.

My one saturday night was spent with a trio of scrubs and the latest vogue, my skin was silky smooth afterwards and my mind full of best-of-the-best skincare, makeup and fashion! Also copious amounts of tea; I was silly enough to move away from tassie without stocking up on all my favourite locally made tea mixes. So my suitcase now contains a rather large bag of Indian Chai, Vanilla Chai, Lotus Chai {Can you tell I like chai?!?} an amazing english breakfast and a french earl grey! Seriously, I think I need to go to tea-aholics anonymous. 

We took a visit to the quaint little of Oatlands, a town full of heritage, sandstone buildings and gorgeous gardens! They are world know for milling their own flour and it's hard to miss the huge flour mill that you can see from every direction. I fell in love with one garden we visited, inspired by villages in France Le Jardin was created and is full of highly perfumed lavender, lush olive trees and cobbled paths, I swooned immediately and was reluctant to leave! 

My first stop after getting straight off that plane was a trip to one of my favourite little coffee shops, I had definitely been spoilt with the choice of coffee over the years and have been struggling to find a good cup of coffee around my new town so I was desperate for a familiar blend. It didn't disappoint and got me through the next few hours without the bleary post-flight eyes!

More Lavender gardens! I went into crazy tourist mode, the angles I was getting phew-you'd think I was a yoga master or something ha! 

Just a little reminder to myself- tassie is freezing! I'm a terrible packer and seriously under packed on the jumper/coat front. But on the plus side it was a good excuse to go shopping- I fell in love with this babushka doll jumper from asos, it's not to thick so perfect for lounging around the house in. But with the leaves falling around me {Literally- this stunning red leaf fell on me while I was having my morning coffee!) I figure a few new jumpers were mandatory; and by a few I mean i've had to purchase an additional 15 kilos baggage to get home! 

Alrighty- that was my week summed up! I hope yours was as lovely as mine, possibly not as cold but memorable none the less.
